Kanal 5 (Sweden)

Channel 5 is a private TV channel from Sweden, was founded in 1989 and today belongs to Discovery Communications.

After laborious start channel launched five early 2000s, new strategies in order to establish itself as an entertainment channel for young people. The motto of the transmitter is " Roligare TV" ( " funnier TV" ) and there are entertainment show, including series, movies, reality shows and infotainment programs shown. In 2006, Channel 5 was the most popular Swedish broadcaster in the target group of 15 - to 24 -year-olds.


On 8 March 1989, the businessman Matts Carlgren announced that he intended to establish an advertising -funded TV station, as it previously did with TV3 January Stenbeck. The station was named Nordic Channel and went on March 27, 1989 broadcast.

In the early years of the station drove a large losses. In 1991 the station was sold to the SBS Broadcasting Group. Their owner Harry Evans Sloan had previously purchased Channel 2 in Copenhagen, and TV Norge in Norway. He named the transmitter into TV5, but the French channel TV5 Monde complained against it, so that the TV5 Nordic had to be called. That was the beginning of cable television, as the French channel TV5 was widespread in the Swedish cable. Ultimately TV5 Nordic changed its name in 1994 and became known as Femman ( " fifth "). On 4 February 1996, the station changed its name to Channel 5
