Kandalanu

Kandalanu ( * at least 666 BC, † 627/626 BC) ruled from 648 bis 627/626 BC when Babylonian king. An exception was the Nippur region, which remained under Assyrian direct management.

Reign

In the Uruk- chronicle 21 years of rule are given for him. His accession year ( 648-647 BC) is equated with the 20th year of the reign Šamaš - šuma - ukin. Kandalanu succeeds by Šamaš - šuma - ukin, reflected the revolt of the Assyrian king Ashur - bani - apli. The parents of the Kandalanu are unknown. An installation as Babylonian king Ashur - bani - by apli is occupied in any cuneiform source, but it is probably not reigns without its consent.

Kandalanus first regnal year began on 1 Nisannu 647 BC (27 March ). Both in Babylon and in Uruk was Kandalanu as king of Babylonia. In Nippur was in royal documents BC Ashur - bani - apli called contrast, to the year 631 as King of Babylonia, which, however, apparently exercised no dominion over the rest of the territory of Babylonia.

Further attempts to provide long-term Babylonia under Assyrian domination, are not used. In the region of Nippur broke under Sin - Sumu - lišir, the successor of the Assyrian king Ashur - bani - apli, Babylonian revolts against the local Assyrian domination. The Babylonian Chronicle noted no direct successor for the remaining areas of Babylonia and named the following year year without a king.
