Kandla ( Gujarati: કંડલા ) is a seaport town in the district of Kutch in Gujarat in western India. The port on the Gulf of Kutch is one of the most important ports on the west coast of the Indian subcontinent. The town was founded in the 1950s when, after the partition of India and Pakistan, the seaport in Karachi, Pakistan remained.

Population

At the 2001 census, the population Kandlas was found with 14,695 persons, 8469 men and 6226 women who were 2979 households.

Cyclone of 1998

1998 hit a tropical cyclone at Kandla. Officially, 900 people were killed. Most of them were working in the salt marshes that were surprised by the storm surge. More than 1,800 people were injured, often by collapsing buildings and cabins.
