Kanefer

Kanefer was an ancient Egyptian prince of the 4th dynasty during the Old Kingdom. He may have been a son of the king (Pharaoh) Sneferu, but this is not certain.

Identity

Kanefer is considered by some Egyptologists, such as Rainer Stadelmann, the son of Sneferu, the founder of the fourth dynasty. From other researchers, however, it is dated to a later period. Wolfgang Helck, for example, imagines the life of the prince at the end of the 4th dynasty. Kanefer wore several major titles, such as that of the vizier ( the highest office in the state ) but also to a general. Rainer Stadelmann keeps him also for the owner of the Red Pyramid of Sneferu.

Tomb

Kanefer part of the mastaba DAM 15 in Dahshur. Although it can be architecturally fit into the early 4th dynasty and thus in the reign of Sneferu, this chronology of several pages has been called into question. Wolfgang Helck about the grave inscriptions dated to the end of the 4th dynasty. Another point of criticism is the location of the grave. It is located about 1.2 km east of the Red Pyramid, which is significantly further from this than the actual royal Familiennekropole.
