Kâni Karaca

Kani Karaca ( born 1930 in Adana, Turkey; † 29 May 2004, Istanbul) was a Turkish Hafiz, musician and Sufi scholar.

Karaca became blind at the age of two months after the accident. In his childhood he was religious head of his village and studied the Koran. In 1950 he moved to Istanbul and took singing lessons with religious Sadettin Kaynak and later at the famous Hafiz Ali Üsküdarlı there.

Between 1950 and 1960 he regularly performed in various radio programs. With his music he gained national and international importance and each year was invited to the commemoration of Mevlana Rumi. He is considered the most famous Hafız our time.

At the age of 74 years he died of cancer, leaving behind a wife and two children.
