Kanin (mountain)

Kanin is a mountain range in the western Julian Alps, which is bounded by the following valleys:

  • To the north by Seebach and Raccolanatal
  • To the west by Fellatal
  • To the east by Koritnicatal
  • To the south by the Soca Valley, and from the Ucceatal Resiatal

The highest peak is the 2587 meter high Great Kanin. The group rises above a bare karst plateau. Runs from Predilpass about Raibler Seekopf, Confinspitze, Prestreljenik, Great Kanin, little rabbit, bird Crini, Baba and Skutnik today the border between Slovenia and Italy.

The rutted and holed the water plateaus with their grooves, shafts and canyons are typical for the Kaninstock. The Kaninstock is extremely arid. In fog, the orientation on the plateau is very difficult.

Starting points for tours are in the north of Neveasattel ( cable car to the Gilbertihütte ) and in the south Bovec ( Flitsch ) as well as the places of Resiatales.
