Kankar

Kankar (also called Kunkur ) is a geological name or expression for a particular type of sediment derived from the Hindi language in India. The sediment is found in India, Australia and the United States, often referred to as nodular calcium carbonate, which formed in soils semi-arid regions.

The sediment forms sprinklings in alluvial layers and is often referred to as interrupted stratification in nodular Kankar or as embedded layer in stratigraphic profiles as Kalkret, hardpan or Durikrust.
