Kansas City Scouts

The Kansas City Scouts ( IPA: [ kænzəs sɪtɪ skaʊts ] ) were an ice hockey team in the North American Hockey League National Hockey League, based in Kansas City, Missouri. Founded in 1974, the team in 1976 moved to Denver, Colorado and played under the name Colorado Rockies in the NHL. Since moving to New Jersey in 1982, the team is named New Jersey Devils.

History

In June 1972, Kansas City was awarded an NHL franchise. The first idea for the team name was "Kansas City MO - Hawks " as the basis because the metropolitan area around Kansas City in both the State of Kansas, as well as in the state of Missouri. But the proposal was rejected by a veto by the Chicago Blackhawks. They opted for the second proposal "Kansas City Scouts".

In the season 1974/75 the team took along with another expansion team, the Washington Capitals, the operation of gambling in the NHL on. The Capitals set a NHL record for the worst season in the history of the league and the scouts did not perform much better. The increase in the league to these two teams was pretty fast as an error.

The sporting success was and rising oil prices have made it economical for the franchise in the Midwest hard. 1975/76 looked after as if the scouts had a chance at the playoffs. The end of 1975 they were only a point from a qualifying place. But then came the crash and they played the remaining 44 games disastrous. Only one victory in 35 defeats jumped out for the team. The only player of the team that led to a score, Steve was Durbano who took down the most penalty minutes in the league. Trying to keep the team on track, at least financially, also failed. Instead of the hoped-for 8,000 cards could only sell 2,000 and the owner of the team expressed a debt of $ 900,000.

This meant that you chose the franchise to Denver, Colorado to relocate where the team was to play under the name Colorado Rockies.
