Kanshi (poetry)

Kanshi (Japanese汉诗, dt " Chinese poem ") is a form of poetry in Japan and in contrast to the genuine Japanese Waka. Kanshi refers not only to the shape of a Chinese poem, but also the proportion of Japanese in this branch of art.

Anthologies

Important Japanese anthologies, in which Japanese poet Han to the Tang dynasty imitate in form and content of the Chinese Kanshi:

  • 818 Bunkashūreishū (文 华秀丽 集)
  • 827 Keikokushū (経 国 集)

Form

Kanshi can be divided into: Kotaishi (古 体 诗) and Kintaishi (近 体 诗).

  • To the Kotaishi include all Kanshi that arose before the Tang period and all Kanshi whose construction, pronunciation and meter are free.
  • To the Kintaishi include all Kanshi new style. For they apply in relation to the construction, pronunciation and the meter strict rules. They can be made by 5 or 7 Moren from 4 lines of 5.6 or 7 Moren, from 8 lines of 5 or 7 Moren or 12 lines.
