Kapiti Coast District
Kapiti Coast is a district in the south of the North Island of New Zealand.
Geography
To the north of the district is the Horowhenua District belongs to the Manawatu-Wanganui Region, in the east of the area from Carterton District and the South Wairarapa District is limited. In the southeast of the city - district of Upper Hutt and closes in the southwest of at Porirua.
Along the partially fringed by sandy beaches Coast ( Kapiti Coast) stands out as geographical feature of the area Kapiti Iceland. At about 20 km ² island is a nature park to get rare birds their habitat. Only 50 people are allowed to enter the island per day. Between the island and the mainland is also a marine reserve has been established (see also list of marine protected areas in New Zealand).
Population
Although officially part of the Kapiti Coast Wellington Region, it is both economically as well as socially, delimited by the four urban districts in the south and southeast, make up the economic core of the Wellington region.
Capital of the district is Paraparaumu. Other major towns are Paekakariki, Raumati, Waikanae and Otaki.
