Kapoita (Arabic كبويتا Kabūyitā; alternative spelling Kapoeta ) is a small town in the state of Eastern Equatoria ( Eastern Equatoria ) in southern Sudan.

The city is located about 100 km from the Kenyan border at Lokichoggio away.

History

1991 lost the Sudan People's Liberation Army ( SPLA) in the Civil War in South Sudan control of Kapoita to the Sudanese government. In June 2002, the city of the SPLA could be recaptured. As part of the peace agreement between the Khartoum government and the SPLA and the associated autonomous government for Southern Sudan Kapoita 2005 should be the capital of the state of Eastern Equatoria instead of Torit. Torit was 2009, however, further indicated as the capital of the state.

Economy

In the countryside of Kapoita is suspected in the sandy soil gold.

Infrastructure

Kapoita joined almost all other small towns in Southern Sudan an airstrip ( ICAO designator: HSKP, the trajectory length is 1036 m in). The village lies on the main road from the Kenyan border town of Lokichoggio over Torit to Juba.
