Akawaio is a Caribbean language and is spoken mainly in Guyana, preferably in the region of the Upper Mazaruni.
It is still spoken by some 6,000 people. Although many Akawaio - speaking people live outside of the cities, there are some Akawaio - towns, especially Kamarang, Jawalla, Waramadong and Kako. Chance to find Akawaio in Venezuela and in Brazil ( see Ingarikó ).
