Kappelen (Haut-Rhin)

Chapels ( German: Kappeln ) is a commune with 536 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Haut-Rhin in the Alsace region. It belongs to the district Mulhouse, on the Canton Sierentz and founded in 1999, community association Pays de Sierentz.

Geography

The parish chapels, lies in the Sundgau, about 15 kilometers northwest of Basel and 15 kilometers east of Altkirch.

Neighboring communities of chapels are Uffheim in the north, Brinckheim in the east, Michel -le -Bas in the southeast, Ranspach -le- Bas in the south, southwest, and Helfrantzkirch in Stetten in the northwest.

History

The name first appears in the 12th century. At that time the village belonged to the manor soldiers who were based in the same village. Chapels was given its own parish in 1820.
