The Kapuas River is a stream or on the island of Borneo. It flows through the Indonesian province of West Kalimantan. With a length of 1143 km it is the longest river in Borneo and the longest river in Indonesia. It rises in the Müller Mountains in the center of Borneo. In the southeast of the island of Kapuas flows near the city of Pontianak in the Karimata Street, which connects the Java Sea to the South China Sea.

While Pontianak is a modern, mainly inhabited by Muslim Malays big city, living upriver on the banks of the Kapuas river and its tributaries various Dayak ethnic groups.
