Kaqchikel people

The Cakchiquel ( Kaqchikel also ) are an indigenous people in Guatemala. It belongs to the large group of Maya and now lives mainly in the Guatemalan department of Chimaltenango.

The Cakchiquel kingdom was conquered in 1524 by the Spanish conquistador Pedro de Alvarado, after it had previously made ​​the enmity of the Cakchiquel advantage of the Quiché.

As Cakchiquel also denotes belonging to the Mayan languages ​​language that is spoken by about 400,000 people in Guatemala.

The former capital of the Cakchiquel kingdom was Iximché.
