Kara Braxton

Kara Liana Braxton ( born February 18, 1983 in Jackson, Michigan, United States) is a professional basketball player. She currently plays for the Detroit Shock in the Women's National Basketball Association.

Career

College

Kara Braxton played until 2005 for the women's basketball team at the University of Georgia. Braxton was considered a great talent at the college, but they always fell back on by undisciplined behavior, for example, it was late getting back to training.

Women's National Basketball Association

Braxton was selected by the Detroit Shock at the seventh place in the WNBA Draft 2005. Experts were of the opinion that it had been already selected in the draft earlier if it were not repeatedly noticed negative at college. In the 2005 season, Braxton was elected to the WNBA All- Rookie Team, further, it achieved an average of 6.9 points and 3 rebounds per game. In the 2006 season, many expected a performance increase of Braxton, but they got less playing time and had therefore at the end of the season a lower cut points than they did in their rookie season. Nevertheless, they played an important role in winning the WNBA championship. After this season, the Shock Center Ruth Riley transferred to the San Antonio Silver Stars, so they moved into the 2007 season in the starting lineup of the Shock. Braxton was elected during the season in the starting lineup for the Eastern Conference All -Star team. At the end of the regular season Braxton has been banned for two games after it was revealed that she steered a car under the influence of alcohol. Braxton finished this season with an average of 6.7 points and 5.4 rebounds per game.

Internationally

In the WNBA season break Braxton plays occasionally for the Polish team TS Wisla Can- Pack Krakow. In the season 2005/ 06 and 2007/ 08 they won the Polish championship with the TS Wisla Can- Pack Krakow. In the 2007 /08 season also played the WNBA players Candice Dupree and Anna DeForge for TS Wisla Can- Pack Krakow.
