Karaginski (Russian Карагинский ) is an island in the bay of the Bering Sea in the Russian Far East, northeast of the Kamchatka Peninsula.

Geography

The area of ​​the island is 2404 km ², the length of the island from the southwest to the northeast about 100 km, the maximum width of 27 km. From the mainland it is separated by the Litkestraße in the West, whose narrowest point between the Spit Kostroma on the mainland and 13 km from Karaginski projecting and ending in Cape Semyonov Spit about 30 km measures. The west coast of the island is flat, the ocean -facing eastern coast is steep and rocky. Along the island run several parallel mountain ranges that culminate in the 920 m high Wyssokaja ( High Mountain ). Climate
