Karagöz Bey Mosque

The Karadjozbeg Mosque ( Croatian / Bosnian: Karađozbegova džamija ) in Mostar is situated on the Karađozbegova Street in the predominantly Muslim mosque in the eastern city of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

History

The mosque was built in 1557 at the instigation of Mehmet Karadjoz Beg, brother of the Grand Vizier Rustem Pasha, according to the plans of the Ottoman architect Sinan. In the Bosnian war it was damaged, but now restored.

Plant

The processing performed by masters from Dubrovnik mosque is built (lbs 13.4 meters per side) in the "classic " style on a square floor plan and has a large dome on an octagonal drum. They repeated the type of the destroyed mosque in Foca Aladza. However, it fails their former lavish decoration. The slender minaret has below the balcony on a Stalaktitengalerie. The porch on the front side resting on four marble columns and is crowned with three small domes. In the courtyard of the mosque is a covered well ( Sadrvan ). Next to the mosque there is a madrasah and a Muslim cemetery.
