Karakaya Dam

The Karakaya Dam on the Euphrates in Malatya is one of the 21 dams of the Southeastern Anatolia Project ( Güneydogu Anadolu Projesi GAP) of Turkey.

The dam was built in 1976-1987 as an arch-gravity dam. It is about 173 m and its foundation on the river bed 158 m high. The hydroelectric power plant generates a power of 1800 MW and an annual energy production of 7354 GWh.
