Karatsu, Saga

Karatsu (唐 津市jap, -shi) is a city of Saga Prefecture on the island of Kyūshū in Japan.

Your name, composed of the kanji kara (China) and tsu ( harbor ), occupies its historical importance as a port city for shipping to China.

History

The city was founded on 1 January 1932. On January 1, 2005, six cities and a village which formerly belonged to the district Higashimatsuura, incorporated. This was the largest city of Karatsu Saga Prefecture. On 1 January 2006, the village Nanayama was also incorporated.
