Karawanks Tunnel (railway)

The Karawankentunnel (Slovenian Predor Karavanke ) the Karawankenbahn railway connects Austria with Slovenia.

The 7976 m long two-track tunnel was - officially opened on 30 September 1906 - together with the Karawankenbahn railway. He performs approximately 637 m below the Karawanken comb through the mountains. During its construction in 1902 the district of St. Jakob im Rosental was in Rosenbach, built its own power plant. Since the completion of the tunnel is supplied from there the train stations and the railway systems with 50 Hz three-phase power.

The north portal is located approximately 800 m south of the station Rosenbach, the south portal is located in the municipality of Jesenice ( Aßling ) in the village of Hrušica.
