Karby

Karby is a municipality in the district of Rendsburg - Schwansen Eckernförde in Schleswig -Holstein.

Geography and transport

Karby between the Schlei and the Baltic Sea about 5 km south of Kappeln Schwansen. The Federal Highway 203 from Kappeln to Eckernförde runs through the municipality. Three bus lines bind Karby at two stops on the neighboring communities and Kappeln and Eckernförde.

History

The town was first mentioned in 1278. The place name comes from the Danish ( Karkby ), meaning Kirchdorf.

The early Gothic brick church in the town was built around 1300. The tower was added later. In the context of restoration a crypt was discovered under the altar. East of the church is a large cemetery to group the two Protestant kindergartens, a primary school and two sports fields. As early as 1700 there was a school in Karby.

Since 1876, the community is self-employed. From 1948 until the dissolution of the Office 1969, it was the seat of the official administrative Nordschwansen.

Until 1958 there was the little train connecting the Eckernförder circular paths between Kappeln and Eckernförde that the inn and railway hotel Nüser halted in Karby.

Policy

Of the nine seats in the municipal council, the CDU has been the local elections in 2013 five seats, the SPD and three voters Community CHP has two seats. In its constitutive meeting of the municipal council, Klaus- Dieter cunt SPD chose as its new mayor.
