Kareedouw

Province

Kareedouw is a small town with 4,985 inhabitants ( 2011) in the village of Kou - Kamma, Cacadu District, Eastern Cape Province in South Africa. The city lies at 300 meters above sea level between the Tsitsikamma National Park and the Baviaanskloof Mega - Reserve on Route 62, 48 miles from Humansdorp and 42 kilometers from Joubertina. The city is the seat of the municipal administration.

The city was founded in 1905 as a congregation of the Dutch Reformed Church. It is named after a tree named Karee ( Rhus lancea, dt pastures vinegar tree). This refers to the Tau ( Afrikaans: Douw ) on this tree. In Langkloof Valley often pull zoom clouds and fog from the sea, which then precipitate as dew on the trees.

Economically important for the town are forestry, orchards and a small extent of tourism.
