Karen Gillon

Karen Gillon, née Karen Turnbull, ( born August 18, 1967 in Edinburgh) is a Scottish politician and member of the Labour Party.

Life

Gillon attended the Jedburgh Grammar School and then studied at the University of Birmingham. In the following years she was active in youth work, then worked for public education projects. She is married and the mother of two sons and a daughter. In addition, she is a member of the trade union UNISON.

Political career

Since 1997, Gillon was the member of Parliament for the constituency of Airdrie and Shotts, Helen Liddell, works. In the first Scottish Parliament elections in 1999 Gillon first came to elections at the national level. By a wide margin, she won the direct mandate of their constituency Clydesdale and moved into the newly created Scottish Parliament.
