Geographical location

The city is located 40 km north-east of Zielona Góra at the Lazy Obra ( Obrzyca ) and belongs to the powiat Zielonogórski, Lubusz on.

History

The first mention of the village dates from the Cargowo 1360. Karge developed into a center of agricultural trade and was awarded market rights in 1630. The market town was awarded the privilege of holding six fairs. The well-known Karger pigs markets brought the resort popularly the name swine Karge.

1641 acquired the Starosta of Gniezno, Christoph von Unruh ( the Younger ), the market town Karge and founded in the immediate vicinity of a settlement of Protestant religious refugees from Silesia, which got its name.

The two towns merged in 1661 and quickly received Unruhstadt city law. The local people used instead of the official name of the city continue to mostly the shorter term Karge.

1793, Unruhstadt to Prussia, was then between 1807-1815 briefly part of the Duchy of Warsaw.

In 1818 the city became part of the Prussian circle Bomst and entered 1938 Circle Züllichau - Schwiebus.

At the beginning of the 19th century Clock Town was a center of cloth manufacture. The relationships between Obra Obra and Lazy were used for viticulture.

In advance of the Red Army in the spring of 1945 there was widespread destruction in the city and community. In the same year the city was placed under Polish administration and renamed Kargowa. The German population was largely expelled because of Bierut Decrees.
