Karin Beier
Karin Beier ( born December 14, 1965 in Cologne ) is a German theater director, former director of the Cologne Theatre and Staging since the season 2013/14, director of the Hamburg Schauspielhaus.
Life
Karin Beier studied in her home city of Cologne the subjects English language and literature as well as theater, film and television studies. About her studies she came to the theater. In 1986, Beier together with Elmar Goerden the internationally composed theater group Counter Quarrelsome with which they staged a total of nine plays of William Shakespeare mostly to foreign theater venues (such as factory halls and trade fairs ) in the original language.
In 1991, Karin Beier as an assistant director at the Düsseldorf Schauspielhaus. Here she was soon able to bring out their first autonomous productions at a city theater. In Dusseldorf, especially the Iraqi director David Mouchtar - Samorai was formative for their development.
Since the season 2007/2008 Beier directs the spectacle of Cologne as a director. Her contract was renewed in July 2010 until the season 2013/14 and released November 7, 2011 August 31, 2013, as they took over for season 2013/14 the management of the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg. Beier then intends at Cologne Schauspielhaus to take guest productions, as agreed in advance with the then reigning there intendant Stefan Bachmann.
Spectacle
As early as 1994, she was invited with her production of Romeo and Juliet to the Berlin Theatre Meeting today elected and theater young director of the year. Their Düsseldorf multilingual production of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream with 14 actors from nine countries were invited to the theater meeting. In the following years she also staged at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg, at the Schauspielhaus Bochum, at the Munich Studio Theater and the Burgtheater in Vienna and at the Cologne Theatre.
In the years 2004 and 2005, she directed the Worms Nibelungen Festival in a version by Friedrich Hebbel.
For 2010, the ( provisional ) Cologne City Treasurer Norbert Walter - Borjans has provided Haushaltsenwurf in a reduction of the stages of the city of Cologne in the amount of € 6.3 million (this is 12.5%). For Beier this means is that now less played ( perhaps only on Saturdays and Sundays ) and also proposed to erect any new building for the theater and contrary to renovate the old house. Could be saved only at the cost of production.
Beier was nominated with three productions of Cologne Theatre for the Berlin Theatre Meeting of the Berlin Festival in 2010, when the ten best productions in German-speaking presented: The Dirty, the ugly and the Commons by Ettore Scola and Ruggero Maccari, directed by Karin Beier; Kasimir and Karoline by Odon von Horvath, co- NT Ghent and De VeenFabriek, directed by Johan Simons and Paul Koek; The contracts of the merchant. A business comedy by Elfriede Jelinek, Thalia Theater, Hamburg in co-production with drama Cologne, directed by Nicolas Stemann. The Berlin Theatre Meeting 2010 was opened with the production Kasimir and Karoline by Odon von Horvath, directed by Johan Simons and Paul Koek.
On 29 October 2010 the piece on the bus and a fall of Elfriede Jelinek was premiered by Beier. A fall represents a bitter statement of responsibility of the collapse of the Historical Archive of Cologne on 3 March 2009
2010 and 2011, the spectacle of Cologne under Karin Beier of the magazine Theatre was honored today as the " Theatre of the Year ", at the end of the theater season 2010/11 selected critics in a poll of the magazine The German stage the spectacle of Cologne at the best theater in the category " convincing overall performance."
On January 11, 2013, Karin Beier adopted as retiring director with her own first staging of an ancient substance, The Trojan Women of Euripides. These were based on the processing of Jean -Paul Sartre.
Music Theatre
Karin Beier has been active since 1997 ( Carmen in Bremen) as a musical theater director. Other opera productions were, inter alia, Rigoletto at the Cologne Opera, Così fan tutte and Handel's Semele at the Theater Basel. In May 2006, her production of Mozart's opera The Abduction from the Seraglio in a co-production of the Vienna State Opera and the Burgtheater in Vienna at the Burgtheater ( the site of the premiere of the Singspiel in 1782 ) Premiere.
