Karin Keller-Sutter

Maria Karin Keller -Sutter ( born December 22, 1963 in Niederuzwil; homeland justified in Jonschwil and Kirchberg SG) is a Swiss politician (FDP).

Life

Karin Keller -Sutter is in Wil (Canton St. Gallen) grew up and lives there. She completed her school years in Wil and Neuchâtel. Then they continued their education in the School of Interpreting Zurich ( DOZ ) as a translator and conference interpreter. After graduating, she worked as an independent conference interpreter. She studies in Political Science in London and at the University of Montreal, completed a postgraduate diploma education at the University of Freiburg and worked as a vocational college teacher.

Her political career began from 1992 to 2000 as a municipal councilor of Wil; In 1997, she chaired the council. From 1996 to 2000 she was a member of the cantonal parliament of Sankt Gallen and between 1997 and 2000 President of the FDP in the canton of St. Gallen. Since its election on 12 March 2000 to the end of May 2012 she was councilor. She stood in front of the Security and Justice Department and was President of the Justice and Police Directors' Conference ( CCJPD ). In 2006 /07 she presided over the cantonal government. It was involved in the new asylum and immigration law and a consistent implementation in the canton of St. Gallen and led integration into agreements with foreigners. She led a special protection for victims of domestic violence and a police youth services and increased the police presence in public space. She was criticized for its harsh measures, but occurs decidedly to their concerns one.

On 19 August 2010, she announced to run for the vacant by the resignation of Federal Councillor Hans -Rudolf Merz 's seat. The Federal By-elections were held in 2010 on September 22, Keller- Sutter, however, was not elected.

In the parliamentary elections of 23 October 2011, she was elected on the first ballot with 64.56 percent of the votes in the Senate.

Keller- Sutter is married to a forensic pathologist. Among other things, she is Vice President of the St. Gallen Foundation for International Studies, member of the Board of the NZZ Media Group (since June 2012), since 2012 the Board of the retail association Swiss Retail Federation (from July 2013 President ), Administrator in the Pensimo fund management AG and since May 2013 the Board of Directors of the insurance group Bāloise.
