Karksi Parish

Karksi ( German: Karkus ) is a rural municipality in Estonia Viljandi County with an area of ​​322.29 km ². It has 4022 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2010).

In addition to the city Karksi - Nuia ( 2059 inhabitants, and 1987 Nuia ) the country parish includes the villages Äriküla, Ainja, Allaste, Hirmuküla, Karksi, Kõvaküla, Leeli, Lilli, Metsaküla, Morna, Muri, Mäeküla, Oti, Polli, Pärsi, Pöögle, Sudiste, Suuga, Tuhalaane and Univere.

Karksi was first mentioned in documents in 1241. In the 13th century, the parish and the castle was made out. On a side wall of the castle in 1708 submerged the Peetri Church of Karksi was built in 1787 with its distinctive tower. Today's mansion of Karksi was built in the 18th century in the early classical style.
