Karl Adolf Lorenz

Karl Adolf Lorenz ( born August 13, 1837 in Koszalin, † March 3, 1923 in Stettin, also Carl Adolf Lorenz ) was a German conductor, composer and music teacher.

Lorenz initially grew up in Pomerania and came to Stettin, where he attended the Marie Stiftsgymnasium and also took music lessons with the composer Heinrich Trieste 16 years. From 1857 he studied at the Friedrich -Wilhelms -University of Berlin and received his doctorate here in 1861 Dr. phil .. At the same time he pursued musical studies and was a pupil of Siegfried Dehn and Friedrich Kiel. It was followed by several conducting engagements, so when Meixnerschen glee club in Berlin, from 1864 onwards the Stralsund's Musikverein. 1866 Lorenz was the successor of Carl Loewe as Director of Music at Stettin and at the same time worked as an organist, high school singing teacher and conductor of the music and the singing teacher association. Appointed in 1885 to the Royal Professor, Lorenz went in 1910 in retirement.

Lorenz composed the oratorio Winfried (1888), Otto the Great ( 1890), Croesus (1892 ), Joan of Arc (1895 ), Calvary op 65, op 80 The Light (1907 ) and Hymn to the art for soloists, chorus and Orchestra, Op 25 Furthermore, can be found among his works the two operas Harald and Theano (1893 ) and the Comedy of Errors, Op 40, Symphony in E flat major, Op 74 Piano Trio in E flat major, Op 12, and several motets, organ works, songs, trios, school songs and a singing school teaching.

Lorenz was an honorary citizen of his native town, at his birthplace, a memorial plaque was attached. A street in Koszalin and Szczecin bore his name.
