Karl Albert

Karl Albert ( born October 2, 1921 in Neheim; † 9 October 2008) was a German philosopher and university professor of philosophy.

Life

Albert was a son of the merchant Josef Albert and his wife Maria. As a soldier since 1941, he began to deal with Master Eckhardt and mysticism. He studied philosophy and classical philology at the Universities of Cologne, especially at Heinz Heimsoeth, and Bonn. In 1950 he received his doctorate in Bonn with Erich Rothacker. After scientific assistant at Josef Koch from 1952 to 1955 he taught first in the teaching profession and in 1968 was appointed head of the Cologne study seminar. He was a lecturer at the Ruhr- University Bochum in 1972.

Charles Albert was from 1973 to 1980 professor of philosophy at the College of Education Rhineland, Department of Neuss. After transfer of his chair, he worked from 1980 until his retirement in 1987 at the University of Wuppertal.

The focus is on the ontological experience, including "Finding Yourself ", which he took up by Louis Lavelle and Heidegger with him. Next he pursued other types of philosophical mysticism, also including Far Eastern thinkers such as Lao- Tse.
