Karl Bruckner

Karl Bruckner (born 9 January 1906 in Vienna, † October 25, 1982 ) was an Austrian writer.

Life

Karl Bruckner grew up the son of a book printer in the proletarian suburb of Vienna Ottakring. His ancestors were horse-drawn carriage driver. Bruckner graduated five middle schools and learned the trade of car mechanic. In the interwar period he emigrated to Brazil, but returned in late 1937 returned to Vienna. It was not until 1946 he began to write, and became one of the most successful youth book authors Austria.

As a child, Bruckner was in his own words enthusiastic participant great football battles with the " Fetzenlaberl " on the neighboring former Exerziergelände on the enamel. The author put his life narrated children 's books as education for responsible and community- conscious humanity. One of his biggest successes was with a total circulation of over 130,000 copies, the book The Spatzenelf. It describes the path from eleven football-mad boy from a poor family to the community and to the surprise victory over the youth team of a great football club. The book first appeared in 1949 in the communist world -Verlag (Vienna) and live up to the 1970s countless new editions. It is now considered one of the classic Austrian Youth books.

Karl Bruckner's largest international literary success was Sadako wants to live, the touching portrayal of the fate of Sadako Sasaki, a Japanese girl, the atomic bombing of Hiroshima survived as an infant, he but ultimately after the onset of radiation-induced leukemia but fell victim.

1963 Bruckner was awarded the title of Professor. He has received numerous awards and honorary dedicated grave in Vienna's Central Cemetery (Group 40, Number 151).
