Karl Eikenberry

Karl Eikenberry Winfrid (* 1951) is an American retired general of the United States Army and diplomat.

It was proposed by Barack Obama and sworn in on 29 April 2009 as ambassador to Afghanistan. The appointment of a former General in the sensitive post of ambassador was considered by the New York Times as extremely unusual. In April 2011, the U.S. government announced it by replace Ryan Crocker as ambassador to Afghanistan. Eikenberry is to return at his own request as soon as possible in the United States.
