Karl Erjavec

Karl Viktor Erjavec ( born June 21, 1960 in Aiseau, Belgium) is a Slovenian politician.

Life

Erjavec returned with his parents, who lived as Yugoslav guest workers in Belgium, 1972 to Kranj back. He studied law at the University of Ljubljana and then worked in the Municipality of Kranj. He became a member of the Conservative Party Slovenski krščanski democratic ( Slovene Christian Democrats) in 1993. From 1995 to 2000 he was the Ombudsman for Human Rights, 2001-2004 State Secretary at the Slovenian Ministry of Justice.

In 2004 he was briefly on the Liberal Democracy of Slovenia, but was in the same year a member of the Democratic Party of Slovenia pensioners; he is its chairman since 2005.

From 2004 to 2008 he was Minister of Defense, which was followed by 2010, Minister of Environment and Spatial Planning. As of February 2012, he was Foreign Minister in the government of Slovenia Janez Janša, he announced on February 22, 2013 announced his retirement, as well as his party withdrew a few weeks after the Državljanska lista because Janša's corruption scandal from the government coalition. In the new, confirmed by Parliament on March 20, 2013 Government of Alenka Bratušek he is again foreign minister. Following the resignation of Health Minister Tomaž Gantar in November 2013 Karl Erjavec also took over as acting whose department.
