Karl Förster

Karl August Förster ( born April 3, 1784 in Naumburg, † December 18, 1841 in Dresden ) was a German poet and translator.

Life

Karl August Förster studied theology from 1800 in Leipzig, in 1806 and 1807 Adjunct Professor at the cadet school in Dresden. In 1817, his daughter Marie Laura Forester was born, which was active as a writer later.

Rangers first came out with the translation of Petrarch's poems (1818-1819) who lived through numerous revisions to the 20th century. This was followed by translations of Torquato Tasso and Dante Alighieri.

His sketch of the general history of literature (1827-1830) remained unfinished. Begun by Wilhelm Müller Library German poets of the 17th century was continued by him and completed in 1838 with the 14th band.

Ranger was a member of the Dresden Circle of Songs.

Förster's own poems have appeared after his death, with a preface by Ludwig Tieck. Several of his poems were set to music by famous composers such as Carl Maria von Weber, Hans Pfitzner and Arnold Schoenberg.
