Karl Gerland

Karl Gerland (* July 14, 1905 in Gottsbüren ( now a district of Trendelburg ), † April 21, 1945 in Frankfurt ( Oder) ) was German NSDAP Gauleiter of Hesse-Cassel and SS leaders.

Life

Karl Gerland studied from 1923 to 1925 mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Hanover and worked from 1928 to 1930 in various establishments.

Gerland joined the NSDAP in 1929 ( Mitgliedsnr. 176 572 ) and in 1930 was district leader in Hofgeismar. From January 1932 he was first deputy Gaupropagandaleiter and from July 1932 Gaupropagandaleiter in the district of Hesse-Cassel. From 1933 he was head of the regional office of Electoral Hesse of the Reich Ministry for Public Enlightenment and Propaganda and was from October 1934 to 1938 as chief officer on the staff of the Deputy Führer, Rudolf Hess. From November 1943 he took over as acting the role of the Gauleiter in the Gau Hesse-Cassel as the successor of the deposed Gauleiter Karl Weinrich and was appointed formally to the Gauleiter on 13 December 1944. From July 1944 to 1945 he was also President of the Province Electoral Hesse. Gerland fell during the battle of Frankfurt ( Oder) on 21 April 1945.
