Karl Groos

Karl Groos ( born December 10, 1861 in Heidelberg, † March 27, 1946 in Tübingen ) was a German philosopher and psychologist.

Karl Groos studied in Heidelberg, where he was also a member of the fraternity Vineta. He worked mainly in the field of development and child psychology and formulated a psychological theory of the game, which he himself described as Einübungs or self- education theory that the game in childhood and youth, especially the biological function of a playful preparation for the future duties and responsibilities of the fulfilled adults. He was a professor in Basel, casting and 1911-1929 in Tübingen. Among his pupils of the philosopher Willy Moog, in casting his doctorate in 1909 he belonged.

Groos undertook statistical studies of literary works - so he set example notes that the writings of Schiller twice as many acoustic moments contain expression such as those of Goethe. This procedure was then called " Literarpsychologie ".
