Karl-Heinz Hopp

Karl -Heinz Hopp ( born November 20, 1936 in Olsztyn, East Prussia, † 11 February, 2007 Palingen ) was a German rower and modern pentathlete.

Life

Hopp started as a pupil at Katharineum to Lübeck with the rowing. As a law student at the Christian -Albrechts -University of Kiel, he worked under coach Karl Wiepcke in the RG Ditmarsia Kiel.

With the Summer Olympic Games in Rome in 1960 Rulffs won the gold medal as a member of the Germany - rowing eight under the " rudder Professor " Karl Adam. In the occupation of Hans Lenk, Klaus Bittner, Karl- Heinrich von GRODDECK, power Schepke, Frank Schepke, Walter Schroeder, Manfred Rulffs ( as a hitter ) and helmsman Willi Padge went aft together for three years and remained undefeated at major events.

After his successful rowing career ( 6 times DM 3 times EM; 1 time OS and 2 times silver Laurel) Hopp tried as talented athletes in other sports such as fencing, shooting, swimming, horseback riding and modern pentathlon and found via a commenced law studies about the equestrian sport to his later career as a veterinarian. 1962 Hopp had begun a veterinary degree.

At the Summer Olympics in Tokyo in 1964, the passionate rider was in the German squad of modern pentathlete.

After his active sports career Hopp worked as a veterinarian in Hamburg. 1992, Hopp bought a riding stable in the Mecklenburg Palingen. He died there on 11 February 2007, only a few weeks after Manfred Rulffs, with whom he had grown up together in 1960 Olympic champion.
