Karl-Hermann Flach

Karl -Hermann Flach ( born October 17, 1929 in Königsberg, † August 25, 1973 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German journalist, author and liberal politician, first in the Liberal Democratic Party, then in the FDP.

Life

1946 Flat joined the LDP ( Liberal Democratic Party later ). 1948/49, he worked as a volunteer and later as political editor at the newspaper LDP North German newspaper in Schwerin. In 1949 he was elected to the LDP state board of Mecklenburg. In October 1949, he escaped from East Germany to West Berlin, where he joined the FDP.

From 1949 to 1953 Flat studied Political Science at the German University of policies, later Otto -Suhr -Institut, with graduate degrees. From 1954 to 1956 he worked as an economic and socio- political editor in Frankfurt am Main and Bonn.

1956 Flat came as an employee in the FDP national office in Bonn and the closest collaborator of the election campaign manager Wolfgang Döring, about which he later said was in the federal election campaign in 1957. "I 've Döring friends with liberal principles, he has trimmed me pragmatic" From 1959 to 1962 was flat Federal Secretary of the FDP and campaign manager in the 1961 federal election campaign under the party leader Erich Mende.

After substantive differences with Mende he retired from politics in 1962 and resigned as editor of the Frankfurter Rundschau (FR) one, first as head of domestic policy. Most recently he was a managing member of the editorial board and officer of the printing and publishing house.

1971 went flat as General Secretary of the FDP under the party leader Walter Scheel in the Policy. 1972 Karl- Hermann Flach was elected to the German Bundestag and became deputy chairman of the FDP parliamentary group.

Published in 1971 his book flat yet a chance for the Liberals, in which he defined a highly regarded theory of modern liberalism in contrast, inter alia, to socialist society theories. He took part in it was only towards the end of the elaboration of Freiburg Theses of the FDP by Walter Scheel and Werner Maihofer. Since the fifties, he campaigned against the so-called " bourgeois bloc mentality" of his party and an opening for the FDP to the employees. He became one of the pioneers of the Social Liberal coalition in 1969.

For his journalistic work in the Frankfurter Rundschau flat has won several awards, including in 1964 with the Theodor Wolff Prize.

On August 25, 1973 Flat died as a result of a sustained during the same month stroke. He was buried in Bötzingen the Emperor chair.

According to him, Karl -Hermann flat Foundation and the Karl -Hermann flat award is named.
