Karl Karmarsch

Karl Karmarsch ( born October 17, 1803 in Vienna, † March 24, 1879 in Hannover ) was a German technologist and longtime first director of the Polytechnic School, later the Technische Hochschule in Hannover.

Biography

Karl Karmarsch came from humble: he was the son of a master tailor in Vienna, the second of twelve children. He studied at the Polytechnic Institute in Vienna, where he became assistant to George Altmütter. In 1830 he was a director of the newly founded Higher Vocational School in Hanover, the structure of the Polytechnic School (PTS, 1847) and Technische Hochschule ( TH, 1879) was associated with Karmarschs name.

Karmarsch was the main teacher in the technological- chemical specialist and represented the areas of teaching mechanical technology and theoretical chemistry with applications to the engineering and construction technology. Karmarsch one of the founders of scientific mechanical technology, which is about the connection of the exact sciences with their technical application. His main work plan of the mechanical technology appeared in 1st edition, 1837.

1846 received Karmarsch, coinciding with Friedrich Heeren, Heinrich Kirchweger and Moritz Rühlmann, an honorary citizen of the city of Hannover ( this meant the gratuitous grant of citizenship ). He was judge at the first World exhibitions in London and Paris (1851-1867) and 1845-1855 Vice President of the trade association for the Kingdom of Hanover, Privy Councillor since 1869. In 1863 he was elected a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. After retirement in 1875 at his own request, he founded the Karmarsch Foundation for scholarships in 1926 merged with other foundations to Karmarsch Collective Foundation. His grave ( with portrait medallion ) is located at the city cemetery Engesohde, Dept. 25a, in Hanover.

Honors

  • On October 17, 1883 in his honor the Oskar Rassau ( 1843-1912 ) and Heinrich Köhler was unveiled designed monument ( 1830-1903 ).
  • The 1879-1898 took place in Hanover Street breakthrough from George Street ( from today Kroepcke ) to Friedrichstraße (now Frederick Wall ) Karmarschstraße and was named 1894 Karmarschgasse in Vienna-Favoriten was named after him.
  • The Karmarsch coin was donated in 1925 by the higher education community in Hanover. With their personalities are excellent, the merits acquired by the promotion of technology and industry in scientific research or in the promotion of economic development.
