Karl Maron

Karl Maron (* April 27, 1903 in Charlottenburg, † February 2nd, 1975 in Berlin) was a German politician (KPD, then SED). He was from 1955 to 1963 Minister of the Interior of the GDR, most recently with the rank of Colonel General of the German People's Police.

Life

The son of a coachman graduated after attending the elementary school from 1917 to 1921 trained as a machinist and worked until 1929 in the profession. Since 1919 he has been active as a wrestler in the workers' sports movement. In 1926 he joined the Communist Party. From 1927 to 1928 he was a member of the Communist Party line of the Siemens - Werke Berlin, since 1931 a member of the national leadership of the struggle for Community Sport Red unit and since 1932 Chairman of the Workers Sports Club " spruce ".

After working illegally, he emigrated in 1934 to Copenhagen, where he served as editor of the Press Service of the Red Sport International (RSI ) was employed. Since 1935 he was a representative of the RSI to the Executive Committee of the Communist International ( ECCI ) in Moscow and after the dissolution of RSI 1937 Employees of the Press and Information Department of the ECCI. From 1943 to 1945 he was editor of the newspaper of the Free Germany NKFD and thereby responsible for the coverage of the war.

In 1945 he returned with the " Ulbricht Group " back to Germany. Until 1946, he was First Deputy Mayor of Berlin, then to 1949 SED city councilor from 1948 and City Council of Economics. From 1949 to 1950 he was deputy editor of the daily newspaper Neues Germany. In 1950 he was in the rank of Inspector General as successor to the late Kurt Fischer Chief of the German People's Police and Deputy Minister of the Interior. From 1955 until his retirement for health reasons in 1963, he was a follower of Willi Stoph Minister of the Interior and at the same time head of the German People's Police, most recently in 1962 with the rank of Colonel General.

Maron was a member of the SED Central Committee and from 1958 to 1967 deputy of the People's Chamber since 1954. In 1961 he was a member of the staff of the National Defence Council to close the border in Berlin. From 1964 he was director of the Institute for Opinion Research at the Central Committee of the SED.

Private

Karl Maron was married since 1955 with Hella, born Iglarz ( 1915-2010 ) and thus stepfather writer Monika Maron.

Honors

  • Maron was awarded the 1963 Karl -Marx- Orden, 1968, the honor Clasp to the Patriotic Order of Merit and in 1973 the Scharnhorst Order.
  • His urn is interred in the memorial of the Socialists in the Central Cemetery Friedrichsfelde in Berlin- Lichtenberg.
  • Today's Poelchaustraße in Marzahn was 1978-1992 Karl- Maron Street.
  • The German Post of the GDR was in his honor in 1983 issuing a special stamp.
