Karl Marx (composer)

Karl Marx ( born November 12, 1897 in Munich, † 8 May 1985 in Stuttgart ) was a German composer and music educator.

Karl Marx was born in 1897 as son of the tax secretary Josef Marx and his wife Emilie, born in marriage Berg in Munich. He studied natural sciences, and later composition among others, Carl Orff and Siegmund von Haus Egger. In 1929 he became a teacher of composition at the Academy of Music, Munich. From 1939 to 1945 he taught at the Johann -Joseph- Fux Conservatory in Graz, composed music for National Socialist celebrations and songs for the Hitler Youth. After Fred K. Prieberg it came after the death of originating from Graz Austrian composer Joseph Marx 1964 occasionally confusion between the two. From 1946 until his retirement he was a professor of composition at the Musikhochschule Stuttgart.

He wrote orchestral works, concertos, chamber music, piano music, organ music, cantatas, numerous choral works and songs to texts of German poets. Of particular concern were him his compositions for youth music that were popular in his time.
