Karl Mollweide

Carl Brandan Mollweide ( born February 3, 1774 Wolfenbüttel, † March 10, 1825 in Leipzig) was a mathematician and astronomer in Halle and Leipzig.

Mollweide was at the University Observatory Leipzig until 1816 Observer. In 1812 he was appointed professor of astronomy in 1814 as a full professor of mathematics. From 1820 to 1823 he was Dean of the Faculty of Arts.

According to him the Mollweide is named, an equal-area map projection, as well as a trigonometric formula in the triangle.
