Karl Nordström

Karl Fredrik Nordström ( born July 11, 1855 Good Hoga on Tjörn; † August 16, 1923 in Drottningholm ) was a Swedish painter.

Life

From 1875 onwards Nordström was supervised as students of the art school at the Swedish Academy of Art mainly by Edvard Perseus. From 1880 to 1882 he held on for studies in various locations in France, where he was strongly influenced by Impressionism. Among other things, he lived together with other Swedish artists in the artists' colony in Grez -sur- Loing. First acclaimed successes had Nordström in 1886 at the Paris Salon with his paintings wooded area near Grez and outdoor portrait of woman as N. fiancée. In the same year Nordström married the artist Tekla Lindeström and his daughter Elsa was later painter. Then Nordström lived mainly on Tjörn and in the Stockholm district Djurgården what his style tended more to the Scandinavian. Nordstrom was one of the founders of the Swedish Union of Artists and was from 1896 to 1920 whose spokesman.

Together with Nils Kreuger and Richard Bergh he formed the so-called Varbergschule, which was based on works by Paul Gauguin. Nordström was close friends with August Strindberg and Carl Larsson, whom he had met in France. His paintings are exhibited, among others, the Swedish National Museum, Waldemarsudde, in the Thielska Gallery and Art Museum in Gothenburg.
