Karl Plattner

Karl Plattner ( born February 13, 1919 in Malles, Italy, † December 8, 1986 in Milan ) was a South Tyrolean painter.

Biography

Plattner was born in 1919 as one of ten children in the upper Vinschgau. In 1935 he began an apprenticeship as a house painter in Mals and later in Bressanone. There he met Sebastian Fasal, professor at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, know, with whom he studied fresco painting.

During World War II he was a soldier in the German army and came to Livorno in American captivity. After a prisoner of war he continued his studies in Florence, Milan and Paris. During this time he received his first public commissions for frescoes in South Tyrol.

In 1952 he moved with his wife to Brazil and exhibited his works in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. In Brazil, he also received significant orders.

1956, he met Clement Wood Master, with whom he realized the artistic design of the new Logenvorraumes in the Grosses Festspielhaus Salzburg.

In 1961 he moved to Tourrettes- sur -Loup, southern France. From 1963 to 1978 he lived in Milan.
