Karl, Prince of Leiningen

Friedrich Karl Eduard Erwin Prince of Leiningen ( born February 13, 1898 in Strasbourg, † August 2, 1946 in Saransk (Russia) ) was a German nobleman and according to the house tradition 1939-1946 sixth " Prince of Leiningen ."

Origin

Karl zu Leiningen from Leiningen- line Dabo - Hartsburg was the son of Prince Emich of Leiningen and Princess Feodore, born Princess of Hohenlohe- Langenburg. Due to the lineage of his mother he was also on the list of the heir to the throne of Sweden. He belonged to the Protestant Church.

Life

During the Second World War, Karl served Leiningen as a lieutenant commander in the German Navy. At the end of the war he came into Soviet captivity, and to a camp in Saransk (Russia), where he died on 2 August 1946 hunger. He left behind his wife and children destitute.

Marriage and issue

Karl married on November 25, 1925, in Langenburg Kirillovna Maria ( born February 2, 1907 † October 27, 1951 ), the eldest daughter of the Russian Grand Duke Kirill Vladimirovich Romanov and Princess Victoria Melita of Saxe -Coburg and Gotha. From the marriage seven children were born:
