Karl Rappan

Karl Rappan ( born September 26, 1905 in Vienna, † January 2, 1996 in Bern ) was an Austrian football player and coach. He later took Swiss citizenship.

He is, together with Ernst B. Thommen initiator of the UEFA Intertoto Cup. Football Historically the most significant is his " invention" of the so-called Swiss latch, which was later developed into the Catenaccio.

Career

He was also 77 times - spread over four periods, including at the World Championships in 1938, 1954 and 1962 - on the bench of the Swiss national football team, which is a record to this day.
