Karl Rudolf Stehlin

Rudolf Karl Stehlin ( born January 13, 1831 in Basel, † July 12, 1881 ) was a Swiss business leaders and politicians.

Biography

Rudolf Karl Stehlin, son of the architect and politician Johann Jakob Stehlin studied law at the Universities of Basel and Göttingen. On his Doctorate in Law. 1852 followed a long career abroad, in Berlin, Paris and England. 1856-1872 he ran a law firm and notary firm in Basel. 1872-1881 he was chairman of the newly established Basel Banking Association and he also served on the Boards of several railway companies.

As a politician, Stehlin was an expert in finance and transport issues. He sat in Basel 1858-1881 Grand Council, which he chaired from 1866 to 1867. 1875-1881 represented the canton of Basel-Stadt in the Senate and held 1879/80 and the Office of the Senate President.

His brother was the architect Johann Jakob Stehlin the younger, his son, the archaeologist and historian Karl Stehlin.
