Karl Storch

Karl Storch ( born August 21, 1913 in Fulda, † August 16, 1992 ) was a German athlete who on 24 July 1952 on the 1952 Olympics in Helsinki, the silver medal in the hammer throw won (invalid - from 56.45 to 58, 18 to 58.86 m - 57.80 to 58.38 ). Stork in 1938 and 1939, German Vice Champion in the hammer throw for the SS sports community Fulda. When the war championships 1941-1943 he became German champion, 32 times he carried the German national team. On 28 Sept. 1952, the Fulda hurled the iron ball to 60.77 meters, surpassing the first German to 60 - meter mark. With 46 years Stork ended his athletic career.

He also took part in the European Athletics Championships in 1954 in part in Bern in the hammer throw, but could not compete after successful qualification for the final battle because of an injury. Stork belonged to the SC Borussia Fulda. He was 1.84 meters tall and weighed 110 kg in his competition time. After his athletic career, he was the owner of a sports shop and a construction company in Fulda. Politically stork was active, in the voter 's self-help (WSH ) for which he was a member of the Fulda city council. Together with his wife he had four daughters.

Karl Stork in 1954 awarded the Rudolf Harbig Memorial Award. In Fulda Charles Stork street is named after him.
