Karl Tunberg

Charles Owen Tunberg ( born March 11, 1909 in Spokane, Washington; † April 3, 1992 in London) was an American screenwriter and film producer.

Life

Karl Tunberg stood since 1937 as a scriptwriter under contract at 20th Century Fox, where he mostly with other writers screenplays for movie musicals wrote, such as for The Queen of Broadway ( My Gal Sal, 1942) with Rita Hayworth and Victor Mature. In 1942 he moved to Paramount Pictures, where he worked until 1948. In the following years he worked as a freelance writer and produced a series of films, in which he was involved as an author, including Jean Negulescos comedy queen ( Count Your Blessings, 1959) with Deborah Kerr.

From 1950 to 1951 he was President of the Writers Guild of America, he was nominated in 1960 for the screenplay by William Wyler's classic Ben Hur (1959 ) for the Writers Guild of America Award. Although Christopher Fry, Maxwell Anderson, S. N. Behrman and Gore Vidal instrumental in the script of Ben Hur were involved as authors, only Tunberg was mentioned in the opening and closing credits of the film and only one of the authors for the Oscar in the category Best Adapted Screenplay nomination. From 1972 Tunberg wrote screenplays for American television series such as Bonanza. In 1978, Karl Tunberg retired from the film business. Together with his son Terence Tunberg he wrote the books Master of Rosewood (1980 ) and The Quest of Ben Hur (1984).
