Karl von Miltitz

Karl von Miltitz (* 1490 in Rabenau or Scharfenberg, † November 20, 1529 in Steinheim ) was papal nuncio and negotiated with Luther.

Miltitz belonged to the Saxon family of the von Miltitz. He was a canon of Mainz, Trier, and Meissen, 1515 papal notary and treasurer in Rome, and was sent in 1518 as papal nuncio to Saxony to negotiate a standstill agreement with Luther and the Elector Frederick the Wise dissuade them, Luther continues to protect. He had in January 1519 Luther an interview in Altenburg, in October of the same year in Liebenswerda and a year later in Antonite Lichtenberg Prettin, but this remained unsuccessful. On a later trip he drowned in 1529 in the Main at wholesale Steinheim.
